Iceland is a magical country that is filled with inspiration whichever way you turn. Between the Nordic Viking influence of the past, the breathtaking landscape all around, along with the culture and folklore of the land of Fire & Ice, Iceland is home to some fantastic artists, designers, writers, architects and overall creative individuals.

In celebration of DesignMarch, a fantastic design event that takes place in Reykjavík each year, we put together a list of our Top 5 Icelandic designers.
1. Bryndís Bolladóttir

She is a well known Textile Designer. She is an artist who runs her own production studio in Reykjavik. It’s easy to see from her craftwork that she is very much inspired by architecture, design and art. She creates functional and visual installations for various events and companies.

2. Vík Prjónsdóttir

This is an Icelandic based textile design company that shows its fascination with natural materials and craftsmanship. Iceland is a country that is full of mysterious energy, scenery and traditions. Prjónsdóttir has expressed the excitement of finding adventures where they are best hidden, incorporating that energy into their designs. This design company works almost exclusively with Icelandic sheep’s wool and works closely with traditional, local knitwear factories and producers to bring their designs to life.

3. Scintilla

Linda Björg Árnadóttir is the creative director to the home textiles company, Scintilla. As stated in scintillalimited.com, Scintilla brings avant-garde ideas from fashion to home decor. Linda bloomed in the Paris fashion industry for years before bringing her strong graphic design onto a range of products for the home, readily available in Scintilla both online and in stores. Her home products range from towels, pillows, bedding and much more.

4. Volki
Volki
Volki is an Icelandic home decor company owned by designers Elísabet Jónsdóttir and Olga Hrafnsdóttir. They use Icelandic materials to create their furniture and homeware products.
5. Besla
Besla

This is an Icelandic label specializing in organic and recycled clothing and textiles for children. Brynja Emils is the fabulous designer behind the label and she designs all her products with conservation and the environment in mind. Located in Reykjavik, this artist can be found in her Workshop on Brautarholt.
