Café culture thrives in Reykjavík, and a great way to spend a few hours is to relax in a coffee house, it is also the best option for a budget lunch. Don’t stay too late though, as most places morph into bars as the evening wears on.

Reykjavík is a shopper’s dream for the discerning weekender. Designer labels in slick outlets, unique crafts and woollens, or trendy homemade and second-hand wares; you will find that must-have item here or simply have hours of fun looking. With luck, March can also offer a sight of the Aurora Borealis - take a trip into the dark interior to view this unforgettable phenomenon.
Dining
Reykjavík boasts an array of fine dining experiences, with local seafood and lamb claiming top billing and hákarl, fermented shark, only for the brave. Peckish later? Head for the hotdog stand by the waterfront, a national institution.
Djammið
Most people head out around 11pm, so a preparatory tipple may be in order, but once out, indulge in djammið, the Icelandic nightlife, and follow the fun from bar to bar.
