TripCreator Feast of Thorri at the office

The Feast of Thorri is in full swing. This is a time of happiness and merriment when Icelanders come together, enjoy the company of friends and family and feast on traditional Icelandic food. The food may not be for the faint of heart and it may play with your taste buds in a strange way, but it is certainly interesting. TripCreator staff took some precious time off from busy work this morning to enjoy these delicacies.

We had a plate of putrefied shark, ram’s testicles, jellied sheep’s head, smoked lamb, salted meat and fermented lamb. Delicious!

Have you ever tasted putrefied shark? When you open the can the strong smell of ammonium hits you in the nostrils like a putrefied shark attack. Some say the shark tastes a lot better than it smells, others say the taste is so foul they can not even swallow the bite.

I have not tasted it for years, so I decided to be brave today and took a large bite. It brought tears to my eyes and it felt like putrefied shark attack to the taste buds. The rest is history, as they say.
