1. Gullfoss

This is one of the most popular attractions in Iceland and is accessible on the Golden Circle route along with Þingvellir National Park and Geysir Hot Spring . This two tier waterfall cascades down 32 metres into a gorge in Hvítá River and you can stand close enough to feel the cool water spray on your face. Usually you will see a rainbow hovering above the waterfall. Gullfoss is located around 115 km from Reykjavík.

2. Hraunfossar

This is a stunning series of small waterfalls flowing out of the lava. Together, they form an amazing outpouring, woven like delicate lace within the creases of the lava. A shouting distance away,  you will find another beautiful waterfall called Barnafoss running through a narrow rocky gorge. The Waterfalls are located in West Iceland, around 125 km from Reykjavík.

3. Brúarfoss

Here you have a true hidden gem. You can not see the waterfall from the road and there are no signs directing you to it. The fascinating thing about Brúarfoss is that it looks like thousands of small runlets running into a deep icy blue gap. It may not be big, but it is breathtaking and the colour of the river is otherworldly. Brúarfoss is located on the Golden Circle route around 95 km from Reykjavík.

4. Skógafoss

This magnificent waterfall is one of the most visited attractions in Iceland. It is 62 m high and 25 m wide. It is nearly impossible to drive by without making a stop and taking a closer look. There is a path leading up close to the waterfall, but you will also find an uphill stairway beside it, enabling you to take view it from above. Skógafoss is located in South Iceland around 155 km from Reykjavík.

5. Dettifoss

Dettifoss is the most powerful waterfall in Europe. It is also the largest in Europe in terms of volume. The waterfall is so powerful that it makes the surrounding rocks vibrate, and the vibration can be felt by hand. It is 100 m wide and has a drop of 45 m into the canyon below. Dettifoss is located in Vatnajökull National Park in Northeast Iceland, around 554 km from Reykjavík.

This stunning waterfall falls majestically off a cliff with beautiful dark basalt columns. It falls into a gorge well-hidden in the birch wood covering the hills below. Svartifoss is located in Southeast Iceland around 327 km from Reykjavík.

This is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland. It is shaped like a horseshoe and and the wide cascade is mesmerising. Goðafoss is located in North Iceland around 437 km from Reykjavík.
